What is Pre-production?

Planning is an essential part of working in the creative and digital media sector. Pre-production can involve using a number of documents (like storyboards, moodboards etc.) that help along the process.

This unit will enable students to understand pre-production skills and techniques used in the sector, as well as gain the knowledge and skills to create digital media products and explore an application.

It will also help develop understanding of the client brief, time frames, deadlines and preparation techniques that form part of the planning and creation process.

Mind map  - Used by production teams to help structure ideas

Mood board - Used by designers to generate ideas for a creative media product based on similar products or themes

Script - Used to plan out the speech, storyline and stage direction for a video, comic or game

Storyboard - Used by directors and producers to see what needs to be filmed or animated for each scene of an animation or video

Visualisation diagram -  Used by designers to sketch and annotate ideas to see what a final product will look like
