Limitations of Models

Models are obviously not perfect. You just need to think of the weather model to ascertain that fact! In many situations it is not possible to know all of the variables involved and that is one of the limitations of models.

An example:

Imagine you were trying to create a model of a country. The variables you select might be related to what you want to do with your model.

-percentage of population with electricity access

-electricity - consumption

-electricity - exports

-electricity - imports

These variables are used from the CIA world factbook with gratitude. They create interesting models of every country on earth!

Limitation: Consider this: What happens to electricity when the gas is suddenly cut off? Or if the government introduces a huge subsidy for renewable energy? If circumstances change and variables are not what we expect them to be, the model would not be accurate.

Perhaps you can think of further examples.
